    • Paella. As I mentioned before, paella is a food synonymous with the Valencian region. This tasty food of Spain is a rice dish that is usually mixed with meat and vegetables.
    • Fideuà – Noodle Paella. Although recently, Fideuà (noodle paella) became popular in Barcelona, its origin is actually Valencian and it’s now one of the most popular dishes that Spain is known for.
    • Turrón – Nougat. If you wonder what people eat in Spain during Christmas, turrón (nougat) will come up as one of the answers. Turrón is difficult to classify it since it is something between a desert and a pastry.
    • Horchata – Tiger Nut Milk. If you are into trying food and drinks from Spain, horchata (tiger nut milk) should be on your top priority list! The typical horchata is called “horchata de chufas” (chufa is a tiger nut), but there are a few variations of it.
    • Tortilla de patatas. Many a tourist has been puzzled by the Spanish tortilla: a classic staple that bears no resemblance to the Latin American food of the same name.
    • Paella. This is possibly the most iconic of all Spanish foods. But don’t be lured in by the tourist traps offering “authentic” paella on every corner; if you want it done right, you’ll need to look a little harder.
    • Olives. It may sound simple, but trust me: you haven’t tried olives until you’ve tried them in Spain. This simple fruit is central to Spanish cuisine, whether in the form of that beloved all-purpose ingredient, olive oil, or in its original state.
    • Carrillada. Juicy, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth tender—that’s how carrillada can best be described. This dish consists of pork cheeks or beef cheeks braised to perfection, usually soaked in some kind of delicious sauce.
    • Tapas. Tapas is a general term for a snack or an appetizer in Spanish cuisine and comes in dozens of variations, sizes, and forms. It can be combined to create a full meal, served cold or hot.
    • Paella. Paella is the most famous food in Spain, with many variations depending on which city you eat it in. For many, it is associated with the country’s national dish, but Spaniards think of it as a regional – Valencian meal where it comes from.
    • Patatas bravas. This tasty side dish or snack is one of my favorite famous Spanish food. It is simple yet quite delicious, with fried cubed potatoes with a spicy sauce whipped with ketchup and mayonnaise topped with smoked paprika.
    • Jamon. Jamón is a cured ham that is an integral part of Spanish cuisine. Legs of ham are salted and hung up to dry to keep them through the winter months.
    • Patatas bravas. Actually, this popular and easy Spanish dish is re-a-a-a-l-ly delicious. If you have already tried it, you might disagree, and I will argue: You just don’t know how to cook it!
    • Croquetas. In Spain, croquetas are typically prepared by mixing ground meat and/or fish with béchamel sauce. This mixture is then formed into small balls or cylinders, coated in egg and breadcrumbs before deep-fried until golden brown.
    • Gambas al Ajillo. Gambas al Ajillo is a traditional Spanish dish comprising large shrimp cooked in garlic, olive oil, and chili peppers. It is often served as an appetizer or tapa but can make for a delicious main course.
