Jun 25, 2024 · Why is there no bridge between Vancouver and Vancouver Island? Well, one of the main reasons is the deep, soft sediments that are up to 450 meters thick on the ocean bed. Major ships pass through the area, and a floating bridge would not be able to withstand the impact from such vessels.
The Vancouver Island fixed link is any of various proposals to construct a fixed link by bridges, tunnels, and/or causeways across the Strait of Georgia, which connects Vancouver Island to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.
