During her first year in middle school, she cleaned up Tomonori Kogawa's drawings for Combat Mecha Xabungle. She decided to pursue art for her career during her second year. While she was attending the Kyoto University of Art & Design, she touched up illustrations done by Akiman (who was a big inspiration to her) for Final Fight and Magic Sword. She was hired by Capcom in 1991 and was one of the first artists in the company to illustrate primarily with Photoshop.

The illustrations by character designer Kinu Nishimura influenced the script, as certain scenes were altered to match the character illustrations. Among scrapped story elements were the use of hands as a major part of the story; in the final stages of production, Uchikoshi's higher-ups did not accept this focus, forcing him to re-write the story.
Kinu Nishimura began working at Capcom when she was recruited by Akiman while studying at Kyoto University of Art and Design in 1991, with her first job being Muscle Bomber, and her first major project for them being character design and illustrations for The King of Dragons.
