Lejre is a railway town, with a population of 3,097 (1 January 2023), in Lejre Municipality (Danish: Lejre Kommune) on the island of Zealand in east Denmark. It belongs to Region Zealand . The town's Old Norse name was Hleiðr or Hleiðargarðr.

Legend has it that Lejre was once the seat of ancient kings, the Scyldingas, who left their traces on the landscape. Here the legendary hero Beowulf fought ferociously to defend King Roar’s royal hall.
Sagnlandet Lejre (Land of Legends Lejre) is an atmospheric and exciting tourist attraction for the whole family. Ten-thousand years of Danish history is brought to life in the open-air park with houses and settings from the Stone Age, Iron Age, Viking Age and 18th century, historic workshops and domestic animals, located in the beautiful historic landscape near Roskilde.
Land of Legends is the land you must explore. It is a 106 acre archaeological open air museum located in the Lejre Municipality, few kilometers west of Roskilde. Land of Legends comprises reconstructions of an Iron Age village and sacrificial bog (200 BC to 200 AD), a Viking market place (900 AD), a Stone Age camp-site (5000 BC), an 18th-century farmstead and various grave monuments.
