Melun, town, Seine-et-Marne département, Île-de-France région, northern France. It lies 28 miles (45 km) south-southeast of Paris. Like Paris, it is situated on both banks of the Seine, and its ancient church of Notre-Dame stands on an island between two branches of the river.

- Vaux-le-Vicomte. The ambitious and ultra-rich Nicolas Fouquet commissioned this dazzling Baroque château in the mid-1600s. Apart from its size and absurd grandeur the property is historic for being the first time that landscaper André Le Nôtre and decorator Charles Le Brun collaborated on a large-scale project.

Melun is a historic town on the Seine, with a castle, a collegiate church, a priory and a museum. It is also famous for its cheese, Brie de Melun, and hosts a festival in October.
