Robert Kane ( né Kahn / kɑːn /; October 24, 1915 – November 3, 1998) was an American comic book writer, animator and artist who co-created Batman (with Bill Finger) and most early related characters for DC Comics.
Kane pitched Batman to DC and then got Bill Finger to write the first story and flesh out the ideas. Finger came up with the cowl, Bruce Wayne, Commissioner Gordon, all of the things we associate with Batman. However, Kane didn't want to tell DC that Bill Finger had essentially co-created Batman with him and so only Kane was credited.
