From the park’s web site, I gather that the feature photographed below, with sinuous red pipes and multicolored fixtures in the pavement, is actually a wading pool or fountain.
The park system includes more than 50 wading pools throughout the city and three splash pads at Currie, Franklin Steele and Phelps parks. Check the map for locations near you. Free to use. When the daughters of Franklin Steele, one of the first settlers in the area, donated land for Franklin Steele Square to the city in 1882, a condition of their donation was that Loring supervise planting and improvements in the park, a condition to which he readily agreed.
