The Guangzhou Opera House is a structure that rises and falls at the foot of Zhujiang Boulevard, confirming Guangzhou as one of Asia’s cultural centres. Bringing together two adjacent sites for the proposed Museum and metropolitan activities, it forms an adjunct to the Haixinsha Tourist Park Island and a dominant riverside focus for visitors.
Guangzhou Opera House was designed by Zaha Hadid, who was the first woman to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Located downstream of the Pearl River, the opera house looks like two pebbles washed and smoothed by the river.

The Guangzhou Opera House has a 1,800 seat auditorium for theatrical plays as well as symphonies due to its cutting-edge acoustic technology. A smaller 400 seat multifunction hall functions as a smaller more intimate space for many different artistic expositions.
