He attended Spring Hill High School. Rusty enjoyed woodworking and was a member of Set Free Church. Despite his disability, Rusty was a free spirit.

Russell P. "Rusty" Mills (c. December 16, 1962 – December 7, 2012) was an American animator, director and producer. A Primetime Emmy winner, Mills was best known for his work with Warner Bros. Animation, including Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Pinky and the Brain.
Former Warner Bros. animator Rusty Mills (Russell P. Mills) died on Friday after battling colon cancer, according to a report by The Winston-Salem Journal. A native of Winston-Salem, Mills was 49.
Rusty was co-captain of the football team. He died with the love of his life, Glenda Leigh Fort and they are buried side by side. He was a great guy who always had a smile on his face. He loved God and his family.
