The library was named in honor of John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Class of 1897. The only son of one of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, Rockefeller “found himself” at Brown and credited his experience at the University with informing his lifetime of philanthropy.
It is one of five individual libraries which make up the Brown University Library. The library was named after John D. Rockefeller Jr., who graduated in the class of 1897. The building was constructed between 1962 and 1964 and designed by Danforth Toan.
