The year is coming to a close, and the time has come to look back at all the films that blew our minds.

IGN’s film critics watched a heck of a lot of movies this year, and these were the very best. IGN rates its movies on a scale of 0-10, and any film released (theatrically or streaming) between January 1 and December 31st is eligible for this slideshow, which highlights all the films that earned a 9 or above from any of our various film critics.

On this scale, any film rated 9.0-9.9 is considered “amazing” and anything that gets the coveted 10 rating is declared a “masterpiece”. And we don’t give 10s out to just anything, either. In fact, not one motion picture earned a 10/10 rating in all of 2018. (And be sure to check out our worst reviewed movies of 2018.)

Read the full review by Scott Collura: “Using the strength of its powerful and interesting villain to set the stakes higher than ever, Avengers: Infinity War successfully brings together the past 10 years of Marvel movies into a largely effective cocktail of super-heroic dramatics. The fact that it manages to give nearly every member of its admitte...

Read the full review by Jim Vejvoda: “Black Panther delivers the goods as an adventure film, a political statement, and a cultural celebration. It shakes off a sluggish start thanks to a memorable cast of characters going up against Marvel’s best-realized villain in almost a decade. Some of the vibrance is drained by cartoonish visual effects that ...

Read the full review by William Bibbiani: “It takes real intelligence to make the best dumb jokes. Game Night has plenty of both, combining skilled filmmaking and ridiculous gags in equal measure, and letting the seriousness and silliness play off of each other for maximum effect.”

Read the full review by Daniel Krupa: “Ghost Stories aims to terrify you, evoking a reverence for the unseen. But occasionally, it’s more than content to simply horrify you, revealing something that will make you recoil. And when there’s no other option left, it’s happy to gross you out, shoving something gruesome down your throat. While it display...

Read the full review by Jim Vejvoda: “While no entry in the franchise has surpassed the original film, this Halloween sequel is truly a cut above the rest and a great piece of horror entertainment even for those unfamiliar with the series. Filmmaker David Gordon Green has infused his Halloween with a dark wit and a gleeful self-awareness, and Jamie...

Read the full review by Natasha H.: “Liz and the Blue Bird, while seemingly straightforward and simple, is one of the most structurally complex films about the necessity of communication for healthy relationships. It displays human insecurity and vulnerability in beautifully honest ways, and thanks to the combined craft of director Yamada's impecca...

Read the full review by Rafael Motamayor: “Mid90s explores the feeling of self-satisfaction we get when we find our tribe, as well as the fun and camaraderie of being a teenager. Jonah Hill has made his version of Lady Bird, a directorial debut that is informed by personal experiences, yet presented with the distance of an outside observer.”

Read the full review by Rosie Knight: “Uniquely violent, stylish, and engaging, The Night Comes For Us is an exciting prospect that delivers on all fronts. With this film, Tjahjanto has established himself as a force to be reckoned with when it comes to creating gore-soaked action films unlike anything we've seen before.”

Read the full review by Brian Gallagher: “Searching shows how disconnected we really are as a species from one another, by telling this story through the devices and websites that are supposed to bring us together. The story shows us the humanity of the absolute now, from the texts and IMs we type out then delete and rewrite, to the things we share...
