Definitely the theatrical version. The TV version is more of a curiosity. If you’re interested in seeing the extra footage and the full frame shots, and the hoops they had to jump through to appease the TV censors, then watch the TV version after.
On the minus side, it was obviously written in a hurry and there are a number of inconsistencies, particularly in geography - but they'd likely be glaring only to someone who lives in LA's South Bay, where the real story took place (Ridgemont High was Redondo Union High School).
