  1. It's just so bizarre in a show that's usually so progressive. It would be one thing if they had Jamie Bamber actually put on some weight for the role so I could buy that the character truly put on weight, but as it is I am constantly reminded that they created this "fat" person just to make fun of it.

The miniseries starts with a bang (literally) when the Cylons strike the Twelve Colonies and effectively eliminate the majority of humanity. So who’s left to guide these people? As the 43rd in the line of succession, Laura Roslin, previously Secretary of Education, is appointed President and hastily sworn in aboard a government ship. If that scene ...

“So Say We All”. The iconic phrase, first uttered by Admiral Adama near the end of the miniseries, was not actually part of the original script. While reciting the character’s touching speech in front of rows of caskets, Edward James Olmos improvised the line because he thought it was a good way for a military leader to rally his troops. Since the ...

Of course, not everything Edward James Olmos did was beloved by the production crew. Although it ended up looking great on screen, the filming of Season 3 episode “Maelstrom” went way over budget because of the actor. Near the ending of the episode, overcome with anger, Admiral Adama ends up smashing to pieces a model ship he had been building thro...

With the multiple twists and turns taken throughout the series, and how much sense everything ends up making (except for the finale, some would say), you would think that a show such as Battlestar Galacticawas plotted way in advance, with every story beat carefully planned. The truth is quite different: By Ron Moore’s own admission, the only thing ...

One of the most surprising parts of the finale, in my opinion, is Cavil offing himself when he realizes that the Cylons have lost the war. As a Cylon, Cavil was probably the one most convinced of the righteousness of his cause, and though his final decision was surprising, it did make sense when one looks at the character’s convictions. We almost w...

While it might not have had a lasting effect on the character, one of the most jarring moments in Battlestar Galactica's history was the reveal that in between seasons 2 and 3, Apollo gained a significant amount of weight. Despite it being slightly amusing, the reveal of a chunkier Apollo did show that the character had been out of action for a whi...

The character of Billy Keikeya, the President’s aide, is a highlight of the first two seasons of BSG. The man is plain likable: his relationship with Laura Roslin made the President seem more approachable, while his romance with Dualla was adorable (until she fell for Apollo). As if being turned down after proposing wasn’t bad enough, Billy lost hi...

To Battlestar Galacticafans, actor Aaron Douglas is mainly known as the rugged man behind Galen Tyrol, the chief in charge of maintenance. To his castmates, he is much more than that. On top of being a talented actor, Aaron Douglas is also particularly skilled when it comes to impersonations. According to those in the know, he did a pretty good imp...

While Battlestar Galacticanever shied away from violence or shocking moments, most of them were fairly subdued. The consequences of the action were real and visceral, but the show was careful about how much brutality it would show. Things certainly changed in the episode “Faith”, which is the start of the storyline where Felix Gaeta loses his leg i...

If you are reading an article about Battlestar Galactica, a show which ended nearly a decade ago, you are probably aware of everything that happens, but still, spoilers ahead: Though Admiral Adama makes the decision to send the Galactica and the rest of the fleet straight into the sun after the survivors reach Earth, this wasn’t always the preferre...

  3. Was it just really good makeup work, cg, or did Jamie Bamber really get that fat??? Serious damn dedication to the role if the weight was real! Is it though? I mean it does look real as hell, but I just can't tell. It was make up, prosthetics, and a fat suit. Really bad makeup/fat suit. Serious damn dedication to the role if the weight was real!
