The Swedish soprano Jenny Lind, often known as the "Swedish Nightingale", was one of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century. At the height of her fame she was persuaded by the showman P. T. Barnum to undertake a long tour of the United States.
Jenny Lind was a Swedish-born operatic and oratorio soprano admired for her vocal control and agility and for the purity and naturalness of her art. Lind made her debut in Der Freischütz at Stockholm in 1838 and in 1841 studied with Manuel García in Paris.
