Springlake Amusement Park was a popular Oklahoma City attraction from the 1920s through the 1970s. Admission to the park was free and rides and the pool were on a pay-as-you-go basis. If you just wanted to picnic by the lake there was no charge.
Jul 10, 2014 · From the late ’50s and all through the ’60s, Oklahoma City boasted three such parks scattered around town — Springlake, Frontier City, and Wedgewood — only one of which, Frontier City, survives today. Of the three, Wedgewood was definitely the most modern … and it was also the first to go.
To the kids and parents in the neighborhood, the beloved Smith was simply known as Smitty. The land for this park was originally part of the Land Run homestead of Civil War veteran Abram George Mudgett who became a doctor despite partially losing his sight in the war.
