North's classic and heartbreakingly beautiful score for The Long, Hot Summer appears here more complete than ever before and in stereo for the very first time. The film starred Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Orson Welles and Lee Remick and featured a love theme and score among North's very best.
One of the most romantic movies ever made about the modern (albeit rural) South, it elicited from composer Alex North one of his most unabashedly romantic scores, starting with the title track, a rich, string-laden, hauntingly beautiful ballad sung by Jimmie Rodgers.
Vintage North. The Long, Hot Summer is a superb score, laying in some ways the groundwork for two of North's most daring, stunning works, The Sound and the Fury (for the same director - and in my opinion North's boldest and best score) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
