May 30, 2020 · The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is the most important structure commonly injured during lateral patellar dislocation and its rupture accounts for 3% of total knee injuries. MPFL reconstruction (MPFLR) is a reliable procedure with good results but variable rates of recurrent instability.
The anatomic double bundle MPFL reconstruction technique replicates the native shape of the MPFL and provides outstanding flexion and extension. The double bundle technique also efectively limits rotation throughout the ROM, minimizing postoperative instability.

Dec 11, 2021 · In recent years, there has been a substantial quantity of evidence published on MPFL reconstruction from a variety of different countries and journals and of variable methodological design. Isolated MPFL reconstruction results in a decrease in patellar height postoperatively.
MPFL reconstruction surgery is often performed in patients with patellofemoral instability who have suffered recurrent lateral patellar dislocations. Surgical repair of the MPFL restores the medial patellar stability.
Although conservative, nonsurgical management of an initial patella dislocation yields excellent results in most cases, up to 50 percent of patients may experience a recurrence, marked by underlying MPFL laxity that requires repair and reconstruction. 1,2
