She married English character actor Francis Lister in 1924, actor Edward Ashley-Cooper in 1934, and actor Esmond Knight in 1946.
With the outbreak of war in 1914, Nora's father joined the army and the rest of the family moved to London, primarily so that Nora could pursue her career on the stage. She never actually studied with Phyllis Bedells but joined the Italia Conte's Dancing and Drama Schools.
