Orion Pictures was founded in 1978, and after various changes of ownership, ended its first existence in 1999. MGM, the current owner of the label, revived in 2014 after a 15-year hiatus, with both the original and the revived company using some form of this logo until 2022.

Starting in 1984 on trailers, the logo is close up and begins from the stars spinning to form the "O", but, instead of the words "An" and "PICTURES RELEASE" fading in, the words "COMING FROM" (in a larger font) and "PICTURES CORPORATION" fade in above and below the logo respectively.
