He was taken to the emergency room, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, aged 40. His death was ruled a suicide. On June 7, 1996, Combs' funeral was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glendale. His remains were flown back to his hometown of Hamilton, Ohio, where he was interred at the Greenwood Cemetery.
