Therese of Lisieux OCD ( French: Thérèse de Lisieux [teʁɛz də lizjø]; born Marie Françoise-Thérèse Martin; 2 January 1873 – 30 September 1897), also known as Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face ( Thérèse de l'Enfant Jésus et de la Sainte Face ), was a French Discalced Carmelite who is widely venerated in modern times.
Saint Therese of Lisieux, Carmelite nun whose service to her Roman Catholic order, although outwardly unremarkable, was later recognized for its exemplary spiritual accomplishments. She was named a doctor of the church by Pope John Paul II in 1997, the youngest person to be so designated.

The Life of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. THÉRÈSE MARTIN was born at Alençon, France on 2 January 1873. Two days later, she was baptized Marie Frances Thérèse at Notre Dame Church. Her parents were Louis Martin and Zélie Guérin. After the death of her mother on 28 August 1877, Thérèse and her family moved to Lisieux.
