Biography of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. Childhood in Alencon. Thérèse Martin was born on 2th January 1873 in Alençon. She is the youngest of a family of nine children, four of whom died at a young age. His parents, Louis and Zélie Martin, were husbands of great piety. She has four older sisters: Marie, Pauline, Léonie and Céline.
Taught by the Benedictine Nuns of Lisieux and after an intense immediate preparation culminating in a vivid experience of intimate union with Christ, she received First Holy Communion on 8 May 1884.
