Artist bios. Bill Monroe is the father of bluegrass. He invented the style, invented the name, and for the great majority of the 20th century, embodied the art form. Beginning with his Blue Grass Boys in the '40s, Monroe defined a hard-edged style of country that emphasized instrumental virtuosity, close vocal harmonies, and a fast, driving tempo.

Apr 6, 2005 · A frequently asked question, I know, but what would people recommend as a good compilation of all of Bill's greatest music? I am looking for something that covers the Monroe Brothers right up to the last stuff he recorded. Does anybody have this one? If so, would you recommend it? Thanks!

My only basis of comparison is the three-CD set of complete Monroe Brothers recordings that was done by the Japanese arm of BMG in 1997 (called, in typically mangled Japanese/English syntax, The Legendary The Monroe Brothers Collection ).
