The Civil Protection, also known as the "metro cops" and "CPs", is the police force responsible for law enforcement of all Combine citizens on Earth, including City 17. Its officers are called and Resistance members when referring to them. The Overwatch Voice uses the term "Protection" and "Protection Teams."
Metro Cops are almost always encountered in protection teams (a term used by the Overwatch Voice) and will employ very basic tactics, such as covering one another and running to cover when injured or reloading.

Civil Protection and the Overwatch Voice utilize location prefixes to designate areas into categorical sections. These prefixes are accompanied by a number from one to nine. Because Metro Cops are not encountered in some levels, many of these location prefixes are not heard in-game.
Civil Defense is a co-operative police agency in all metropolitan areas of the world, including 17 cities. This police force is called "Civil Defense". The inscriptions "Metropolia" and "KP" are also used for all civilians and members of the defense. Overwatch seems to use the terms "defense" and "defense group".
While the Civil Protection is commonly and colloquially referred to by many as "Metro Cops" or the "Metropolice", most citizens and Resistance usually shortened their names into the abbreviation "CPs".
CPs are typically armed with USP Match pistols and Stun Batons. In more critical circumstances, they will use MP7s and Emplacement Guns, and will be provided with fire support from APC's and Hunter-Choppers. Some officers may be armed with a deployable Manhack and possibly a Flare Gun to call for help.
