     PaintEventArgs.ClipRectangle is the rectangle that actually needs to be drawn by your Paint event. Commonly equal to the size of the control's client area. It will be smaller when only a portion of it was overlapped by another window. Or when you call its Invalidate(Rectangle) method. You can use it to skip drawing expensive objects that fall outside of that rectangle. Which is pretty rare, Windows itself already does a very good job of clipping what you draw.

     Graphics.Clip is a region that you can assign in your drawing code to clip what you draw yourself. It allows for various kinds of effects, like drawing an image clipped by a circle. Or really intricate clipping effects that use a GraphicsPath converted to a region.

     Graphics.ClipBounds is the rectangle around Graphics.Clip, it makes the math faster to get a first order estimate whether or not a point is outside of Graphics.Clip. You'll get a meaningless "infinite" clip bounds if you never assigned the Clip property (X=-4194304,Y=-4194304,Width=8388608,Height=8388608)

     Graphics.VisibleClipBounds is the same as Graphics.ClipBounds but clipped also by the control window. So useful to test if a point might be inside the Clip region and visible to the user. If you never assign the Clip property then you'll just get the size of the window.

     So it is Windows that sets PaintEventArgs.ClipRectangle. The rest is set by you by assigning the Graphics.Clip property.

     You're using different bins in the two cases. In your case, np.linspace(xmin, xmax, (xmax-xmin)/step) has 5 bins, but you've told plt.hist to use 6 bins.

     You can see this by looking at the output of each:

     h1 = np.histogram(s, bins=np.linspace(xmin, xmax, (xmax-xmin)/step))h_plt = plt.hist(s, bins=6,alpha=0.5)-

     Then:

     >>> h1[1]array([ 1. , 2.2, 3.4, 4.6, 5.8, 7. ])>>> h_plt[1]array([ 1., 2., 3., 4., 5., 6., 7.])

     I would use:

     y, x = np.histogram(s, bins=np.linspace(xmin, xmax, (xmax-xmin)/step))nbins = y.size# ...plt.hist(s, bins=nbins, alpha=0.5)

     Then your histograms match, but your plot still won't because you've plotted the output of your np.histogram at the centers of the bins, but plt.bar expects an array of the left edges:

     plt.bar(left, height, width=0.8, bottom=None, hold=None, **kwargs)

     Parameters ---------- left : sequence of scalars the x coordinates of the left sides of the bars

     height : sequence of scalars the heights of the bars

     What you want is:

     Here's the information from the JavaDocs -

     Clears the specified rectangle by filling it with the background color of the current drawing surface. This operation does not use the current paint mode.

     Beginning with Java 1.1, the background color of offscreen images may be system dependent. Applications should use setColor followed by fillRect to ensure that an offscreen image is cleared to a specific color.

     As this implies, clearRect is system dependent and the value of getBackground() is not taken into account.

     Some context first.

     OpenGL is an API to program graphics cards. The API calls to OpenGL get translated into commands for the GPU card in the computer, by the driver of the GPU vendor (usually Nvidia, AMD or Intel).

     (other APIs to program GPUs are Direct3D on Windows, Metal on macOS, Vulkan, etc.)

     These APIs are somewhat "low-level", in the sense that they give calls to instruct the GPU what to do at a raw "geometry"/"pixels" level; these APIs don't have anything like "draw a rectangle here", or "draw this image there".

     Web browsers like Chrome provide the WebGL API for HTML5 pages. WebGL is mostly the OpenGL ES 2.0 API.

     ANGLE is a library that converts the OpenGL ES 2.0 API to one of the GPU APIs: you make OpenGL ES 2 calls and ANGLE converts to equivalent calls in desktop OpenGL, or to Direct3D on Windows, or to Metal on macOS.

     This gives you a consistent implementation of OpenGL ES 2.0, which Chrome wants for the web. (This is super useful because the Windows OpenGL implementations differ from vendor to vendor, and macOS stopped updating its OpenGL implementation at version 4.1 a long time ago).

     Skia is a higher level API that lets you "draw a rectangle here" and "draw this image there" and much more (draw text; draw paths; draw curves; etc.) This is the usual high-level API that you'd get in higher level languages, and on the Web Canvas API.

     To implement those calls, Skia converts the drawing commands to lower-level APIs like GL, Metal, etc. One of the APIs that Skia can target is ANGLE, so that Skia drawings get consistent output across platforms.
