After President Lincoln's assassination in April 1865, Willie's coffin was removed and placed on the funeral train. Both father and son are permanently buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. Willie's death left deep marks on the Lincoln family.
William Wallace Lincoln (December 21, 1850 – February 20, 1862) was the third son of President Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. Willie was named after Mary's brother-in-law, Dr. William Smith Wallace.
Willie was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown. After the assassination of his father in 1865, Willie’s casket was exhumed and his remains were placed on the Lincoln funeral train which traveled back to Springfield.
