Downton Abbey is a British historical drama television series set in the early 20th century, created and co-written by Julian Fellowes. It first aired in the United Kingdom on ITV on 26 September 2010 and in the United States on PBS, which supported its production as part of its Masterpiece Classic anthology, on 9 January 2011.
Gwen's ambitions to leave service and become a secretary are discouraged, Bates takes painful steps to overcome his limp, and a dashing Turkish diplomat visiting Downton seems to work his charms on everyone - especially Mary.
Matthew Crawley , a young solicitor and the new heir, arrives at Downton Abbey with his mother, Isobel. They, the other Crawleys, and the servants all have difficulty adjusting to differences in class and culture whilst facing some resentment from certain family members and staff.
