Hamer Guitars was an American electric guitar manufacturer founded in 1973, in Wilmette, Illinois, by vintage guitar shop owners Paul Hamer and Jol Dantzig.

The first Hamer guitar made (in ’73) was a short-scale Flying V bass built for Dantzig. It had no serial number, and when it was done, Dantzig began to take it to gigs. Other musicians would ask what it was and would be incredulous when told he made it himself.
Hamer was started when Jol Dantzig and Paul Hamer, partners in Northern Prairie Music in the early 1970s, moved from repairing old guitars to making new, improved versions of their “dream” vintage guitars.
Oct 9, 2023 · Hamer guitars are world renown for their aesthetic appeal as well as their tone and playability. The guitar company came from humble beginnings and was actually an afterthought, a result of building a reputation with professional musicians for excellent repair-work and a can do attitude.
There have been a lot of Hamer guitars over the last quarter century. Curiously enough, most have held their own very well in the used in vintage markets in terms of value, a tribute to their intrinsic quality and the heart that the Hamer folks put into their products.
