Jan 8, 2014 · Palmares hosts a traditional Costa Rican festival with bullfights, horse parades and carnival rides, but also brings in famous international acts and way more beer than is probably necessary. Foreigners unfamiliar with the festival shouldn’t miss out either.
Its central location and array of local gems makes it the ideal setting of a theoretical 48 hour trip “off the beaten path”. A 30 minute walk from my front door leads to a variety of hiking paths and waterfalls, while a 15 minute bus ride can bring you to street markets and restaurants.
