Qingdao is a prefecture-level city in eastern Shandong Province of China.Located on China's Yellow Sea coast, Qingdao was founded in 1891 to support coastal defence fortifications. In 1897, the city was ceded to Germany. For the Germans Qingdao (Tsingtao) was a strategic trade center, port and base for its East Asia Squadron, allowing the German navy to project dominance in the Pacific.

A full on splurge about Qingdao’s fascinating 100 year history told in a very pretty stately home. The audio guide in English works well, though there’s a bit too much about the furniture for my liking and not enough about the governance - weirdly, the history of the sewer system was a real highlight.
