In the first episode of the second season, General Savage, played by Robert Lansing, was killed in action and replaced by Colonel Joe Gallagher, played by Paul Burke. (Burke, though considered more youthful-looking than Lansing, was actually two years older, which TV critics were quick to point out.)

His name is Robert Lansing. As the star this season on ABC's 12 O'CLOCK HIGH, Lansing helped attract a large enough audience at 10 o'clock on Friday nights to give the show a respectable rating against its competitors - JACK PARR on NBC and SLATTERY'S PEOPLE on CBS.
Robert Lansing is probably best known for his role as Brigadier General Frank Savage in the first season of the Quinn Martin production, 12 O'Clock High, which aired on the ABC Television Network from 1964 to 1967.
Interlude: Directed by William A. Graham. With Robert Lansing, John Larkin, Dana Wynter, Rhys Williams. Suffering from fatigue, General Savage is ordered to take leave and decides to pay a visit to sunny Scotland.
