Usually, early bladder cancer (cancer that is small and still only in the bladder) causes bleeding but little or no pain or other symptoms. Most often, having blood in your urine doesn't mean you have bladder cancer.
Blood in the urine (hematuria) is the most common sign of bladder cancer. This is a warning sign of bladder cancer for all genders, and for non-muscle invasive (NMIBC) and invasive bladder cancer. Muscle invasive bladder cancer means the cancer is in the muscle of the bladder.
The main warning sign of bladder cancer is painless blood in the urine, called gross hematuria. The blood is often visible but sometimes the tumors don’t produce enough blood to be seen by the patient (microscopic hematuria), and they’re only found through special tests conducted by a doctor.
