The band initially featured Dave Peverett ("Lonesome Dave") on guitar and vocals, Tony Stevens on bass and Roger Earl on drums, after all three musicians left Savoy Brown in 1971. [5] Rod Price , on guitar/slide guitar, joined after he left Black Cat Bones in December 1970.

During the 70s and early 80s, Foghat released a string of top quality blues rock albums, becoming one of America's top live draws in the process. The name (dreamt up by founder Dave Peverett as a kid while playing Scrabble) is now synonymous with top quality boogie and stadium blues rock.

Tony Stevens, born in England and bred on the blues, first came to prominence when he joined the Savoy Brown Blues Band in 1968. After five major tours and many dues paying years, he and most of the band left to stay true to their blues roots and formed the multi-platinum blues rock band Foghat.
