This split EP pairs tracks from two Montreal artists: the ghostly avant-pop project Grimes and the more literate singer-songwriter d'Eon.
In 2011 Grimes released five songs on her side of the split 12" with d'Eon, Darkbloom (through both Arbutus and Hippos in Tanks). Beginning in May 2011, Grimes opened for Lykke Li on her North American Tour, and the following August her debut album was re-released through No Pain in Pop Records, in CD and vinyl format for the first time.
Dec 14, 2011 · despite all of its flaws and some incoherence between both parts, the two-sided «darkbloom» features some highlights that make this an essential listen to every grimes fan. «vanessa» is an ethereal hidden gem, and d’eon’s «telepathy” is nothing short of an astonishingly produced track using interference noise.

Darkbloom is the first studio extended play, first collaboration and overall third album released by Grimes that was originally a split album with fellow Canadian musician d'Eon. Grimes does not own the rights to Darkbloom, and as a result she does not make any money from the the EP in any form.
