Jan 22, 2024 · Microsoft no longer supplies XP ISOs for download or supports XP. I think you are getting confused with a XP Service Pack download. I have no idea what or where you downloaded it from. And XP does not come for free; you have to have a legal product key.

Jun 20, 2014 · The catch is that you must have a Windows 7 or Windows 8 license that is covered under the program. It is called Windows XP Mode. It is not a bare-metal version, though, as you must install it as a Virtual PC app (also provided at no cost under the program).
