Giella received the Inkpot Award in 1996. In 2016, he received the Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award at the Harvey Awards. In 2017, Giella was the Guest of Honor at the 2017 Inkwell Awards ceremony at HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC (June 2017).
The program for the awards ceremony has evolved along with the setting. For several years cartoonist Scott Shaw! MC’d the Inkpot Awards portion of the evening, and Jackie Estrada MC’d the Eisners. Comic-Con’s other awards—the Manning and the Clampett—were also presented as part of the festivities.
