•Throughout all the handheld games developed by Dimps for the Sonic the Hedgehog series, there is a theme of hammer-based first bosses. The theme originated from Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure, in which the first boss featured a ground vehicle with a large hammer and ended with Sonic Rush with the Egg Hammer Mega.
•Although not directly hammer-themed, the Ghost Rex, the first boss of Sonic Rush Adventure can extend its neck and slam its head onto the ground to attack the player.

It was the first Sonic the Hedgehog game released on a Nintendo console with Sonic Adventure 2: Battle on the GameCube, and was produced in commemoration of the series' tenth anniversary.
