Bamberg is a city in and the county seat of Bamberg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,607 at the 2010 census.
Bamberg, situated in the northern part of Bamberg County, is in the southern region of South Carolina, known as the Coastal Plains. For many years the incorporated area of the city of Bamberg was in the form of a circle with a 3-4 mile radius from a center point at the old Southern passenger station.

May 17, 2016 · With the creation of Bamberg County in 1897, the town of Bamberg became the county seat. Located in the coastal plain, Bamberg thrived with the railroad and became the commercial center for surrounding farms and plantations.
Bamberg, county, south-central South Carolina, U.S. Bordered to the northeast by the South Fork Edisto River and to the southwest by the Salkehatchie River, it is also drained by the Little Salkehatchie River. The county is largely agricultural, with wetlands in the Coastal Plain.

History of Bamberg County. Bamberg County and its county seat were named for Local resident William Seaborn Bamberg (1820-1858) and other members of the Bamberg family. The area was a part of Barnwell County until 1897, when the new county was established.
