The Asbestos Control Bureau (ACB) oversees the abatement of toxic hazards associated with asbestos fiber by performing inspections during the rehabilitation, reconstruction, or demolition of buildings and other structures originally constructed with asbestos or asbestos-containing materials.
New York City building owners are responsible for having an asbestos survey performed by a DEP-certified asbestos investigator to determine if asbestos-containing materials (ACM) may be disturbed during the course of work on their building.
