Mock Sourdough French Bread
Food.com
I found the original version of this recipe in the Betty Crocker Bread Cookbook about 25-30 years ago and have pretty much given up on making my own sourdough, since this is a good as all but the very best sourdough breads around. Cooking time includes rising time.
Double-Vanilla Vegan "Eggnog"
BettyCrocker.com
Created for our cookbook, Betty Crocker Cookbook, 13th edition, this delicious eggnog means no one has to go without! It's gluten free, vegetarian and vegan but equally as delicious as the original recipe.
Favorite Pancakes
Food.com
I think using buttermilk makes the most tenderest pancakes. The original recipe came from Betty Crocker Cookbook (1976) but I made just a couple of changes. Our kids ate them as fast as they came off the griddle. I double this recipe and get about 17 pancakes.
Easiest Chicken Macaroni Casserole
Food.com
I found this recipe while browsing through my Betty Crocker cookbook and thought it sounded tasty. I love that you don't have to pre-cook the pasta. The original recipe called for curry powder but I also like it with chili powder for something totally different (if using chili powder, you will want to double the amount). Also a good use for that leftover holiday turkey!
Betty's Deviled Eggs
Food.com
I can't believe no one has posted this original, oh-so-simple recipe. Although I have tried many deviled egg recipes that I loved, and have awarded 5 stars to at least one here, my husband always demands at least one batch of "the old way." This is from Betty Crocker's New Cookbook. Although I nearly always use mayonnaise, Miracle Whip and half-and-half are acceptable substitutes in a pinch.
Swedish Meatballs
BettyCrocker.com
From Betty Crocker Best Recipes, this unassuming dinner is so flavorful, we had to bring it back from our original first Betty Crocker cookbook! Savory meatballs made with both beef and pork and plenty of seasonings make these meatballs worth the effort. A simple, tasty sour cream gravy will put these at the top of your favorites in your dinner rotation.
Quick Cherry Cobbler
Food.com
I found this recipe in the Betty Crocker "Good and Easy" cookbook and it's become a family favorite. The almond and cherry combination is wonderful. It's such a fast recipe, using ingredients that are easily kept on hand. UPDATE 2/16/09: Thanks to several reviews pointing out that the recipe needs to be served a la mode, I am modifying the original recipe to the way I've been making it myself for years now. I've always had ice cream in step 8 as a serving option (have now added it to the ingredient list) & I've always used a full teaspoon of almond extract in the mix because we prefer the stronger flavor. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to review. *Tink
Noodles Romanoff
Food.com
This was the first meal I ever cooked for my wife back when we were dating. The recipe is from and old Betty Crocker cookbook that my parents made for me back in the 70s' I liked it so much that I learned how to make it myself when I was about 8 years old. Over the years I have tweaked it some, but this version is very close to the original. You can really kick it up if you substitute about 1/4 cup fresh (finely chopped) basil for the dried basil and parsley. To make it a complete meal, try adding chicken. Health nuts be forewarned, this dish is incredibly rich and makes for excellent comfort fare! Consider serving it as a side dish by reducing to 8 1/2 cup servings if you are looking for a healthier choice. Be sure to use real Romano cheese, otherwise the dish will taste bland. If you want a tangier result, look for the Sheep's Milk (Pecorino Romano) variety.
The Realtor's Easy Lemon Curd (Lemon Filling)
Food.com
This one is so delicious and easy, you'll never use store bought again. Use fresh squeezed lemon juice if you have it; if not, the stuff in the container will do just fine. I've adapted this from the original recipe that came from the 1950 Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book. It was the very first "big red cookbook" as they are known now. I use this to make my friend GailAnn's recipe #419104
