The Online Pass consists of either a redeemable code included with all new copies of Mass Effect 3, or is purchasable through the Xbox Live Marketplace or PlayStation Network. Once activated, the player can then access Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode. The Online Pass does not expire.
The online pass was discontinued years ago. At that point anyone could just play multiplayer without having to register anything. There have been issues like these in the past, in which case the best way to resolve it was to just contact official support and ask them to manually link the online pass entitlement to your account.
