Aug 28, 2017 · 33 Etrigan the Demon. One of the earliest creations Kirby did for DC when he returned to them in the 1970s was Etrigan the Demon, a demon from the days of King Arthur, who was trapped in his human form, Jason Blood, for hundreds of years before finally becoming free in modern times.

- Early career. After publishing a few works in outlets for amateur artists, Kirby entered the world of professional cartooning in 1936. He was hired by the Lincoln Newspaper Syndicate to work on comic strips and advice cartoons.
- DC Comics. At first DC was uncertain on what work to assign Simon and Kirby. After a few minor assignments, they were asked to contribute their own story ideas.
- Wartime activities. Kirby's comic book career had to be put in hiatus in 1943, when he was drafted into the United States Army. While he never took part in any major battle, he was deployed in the European theatre of World War II in 1944.
- Postwar career. Following his discharge from the Army, Kirby was reunited with Simon. Simon had spend the majority of the War serving in the United States Coast Guard.

- Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen. When Jack Kirby left Marvel Comics for DC in the 1970s, his first work for the company was a bit of a surprise. Still, Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen is no less essential.
- The Boy Commandos. Some of Jack Kirby's earliest work in comics was for DC. He worked on The Boy Commandos for extended runs between 1942-43 and later 1946-49.
- The Newsboy Legion. The Newsboy Legion is another kid gang of sorts by Kirby, also from 1942. The early run is essential for comic book readers and historians in seeing how Kirby experimented with two big concepts of his at the time - the kid gang and the patriotic hero.
