The Best Girl Contest is an annual character popularity tournament hosted by moderators in the r/anime subreddit and conducted through the AnimeBracket website. As of July 2022, there are 37 girls who have appeared in at least the quarter-finals in the Best Girl contest (out of a possible 72). Distinctions •Holo, widely considered the strongest girl to have never won a Best Girl yet, has the most Elite Eight appearances with eight; she only missed the stage once on Best Girl 2 when she lost to Hitagi Senjougahara in the sixth round. Holo also has the most semi-finals appearances with five. •Mikoto Misaka is the lowest seed to win Best Girl, or any /r/anime major tournament for that matter, having won Best Girl 3 as seed #53. That final also had the lowest-ever seed to finish runner-up, the #42 seed Megumi Tadokoro. •Kaguya Shinomiya set several records in her historic Best Girl 7 victory: first champion to originate from a manga, first royal roader (win in debut appearance) since Best Girl 1, and first #1 seed to win the tournament. •Mai Sakurajima is the first girl to appear in two finals, losing in Best Girl 7 before winning it on Best Girl 8. •Best Girl 8 was the first edition to feature no new quarter-finalists. In other words, all 8 remaining girls from that year have already reached the Elite Eight beforehand. •Ai Hayasaka's victory in Best Girl 9 again set several records like Kaguya did: first champion with no romantic involvement, first series to win two Best Girl contests, and overtaking Mai Sakurajima as the most dominant champion to date as she never went below 58% vote shares in all of her matches.
