Dietrich worked for newspapers in Essen and Munich. In 1929 he became a member of the Nazi Party (NSDAP) as a Personal Press Referent. Here he was able to introduce Hitler to numerous important officials within different sects of the mining industry to help secure funding for the Nazi Party.
In 1949, the US Military Tribunal at Nuremberg convicted Otto Dietrich, the former Reich press chief of the Nazi Party, of crimes against humanity. It found that he had directed the German press “to enrage Germans against the Jews” and to justify measures against them.
Dietrich earned this reputation when she refused to star in propaganda films in the 1930s for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Instead, she went close to the front lines in the European Theater of World War II and performed with the USO for American soldiers.
