Jul 3, 2017 · Yes, Mark Margolis, the actor who plays Salamanca, is definitely not a native Spanish speaker. He is a Philadelphia-born Jew... even though he tends to play a lot of Hispanic roles, from "Scarface" to "Breaking Bad", now continuing that role on "Saul".
The guy who plays Tuco is not a native spanish speaker. Neither am I, I'm just putting names out of people that spoke Spanish in BB. I've read on this sub that Mark Margolis (Hector) and Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) speak the least convincingly, as neither actor actually speaks Spanish.
His actual Spanish doesn't sound nearly as authentic. It's grammatically correct, but it's pretty clear he's not a native speaker. Regardless, Mark Margolis is a hell of an actor. The manner in which he speaks in real life is not even close to the way he sounds on the show.
Great Spanish: Lalo, Abuelita, Nacho's father, Juan Bolsa and the cousins. Good, but they pronounce certain words in a weird way: Arturo (maybe it's his accent), Tuco and Don Eladio. Not that good (which is understandable since they're not native speakers): Nacho, Héctor. Bad (again, understandable): Gus.
