Jul 20, 2022 · On Thursday, July 21, Orion Pictures will officially debut a modernized rebrand of its longstanding logo, signaling a new creative direction for the MGM-owned label.
Almost all of Orion's post-1982 releases, as well as most of the AIP and Filmways backlogs and all of the television output originally produced and distributed by Orion Television, now bear the MGM name. However, in most cases, the 1980s Orion logo has been retained or added, in the case of the Filmways and AIP libraries.
We designed a bold, new logo and animated logo that incorporates the familiar visual of space – but bringing the studio forward with exciting dimension, vivid color, and dynamic motion. We partnered with Kid Moxie for the music design to enhance the cinematic experience.
Orion Pictures was founded in 1978, and after various changes of ownership, ended its first existence in 1999. MGM, the current owner of the label, revived in 2014 after a 15-year hiatus, with both the original and the revived company using some form of this logo until 2022.
