    In 1998, Scholastic in the United States took notice of the series’ burgeoning popularity and began publishing the series, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Mary Grand Pré illustrated all seven books, her style becoming synonymous with the US editions.

    While the series was often recognized as children’s literature, it gained a large adult following. The US stuck with Grand Pré’s artwork, while the UK released ‘adult’ versions with less whimsical covers up to the fourth book.

    In 2010, the UK introduced a Signature Edition, featuring covers illustrated by Scottish linocut artist Clare Melinsky. The hardcover collector’s editions from both countries were extravagant – embossed with gold and exuding elegance.

    To mark the 15th anniversary of the Sorcerer’s Stone, Scholastic unveiled a re-released paperback series with new cover art by Kazu Kibuishi. The redesigned spines, when aligned, formed a striking silhouette of Hogwarts – a delightful addition to any Potterhead’s bookshelf!
