Bibliography. External links. Yakutsk. Coordinates: 62°01′48″N 129°43′48″E. Yakutsk ( Russian: Якутск; Yakut: Дьокуускай, romanized: J̌okuuskay, pronounced [ɟokuːskaj]) is the capital city of Sakha, Russia, located about 450 km (280 mi) south of the Arctic Circle.
Yakutsk, city and capital of Sakha republic (Yakutia), in far northeastern Russia, on the Lena River. A fort was founded on the Lena’s low right bank in 1632 and transferred 43 miles (70 km) upstream to the present site of Yakutsk in 1642.
