  1. Which is the better mod, Phosphor or Starlight? I run a (recently upgraded to) Fabric 1.17 server with the following (major) mods: Fabric API. Carpet. Lithium. Other mods (Fabric TPA, Player Roles, Stackable Stew) shouldn't really matter in this case. Computer Specs: Processor: i7-7500U at 2.7GHz. Memory: 16 GB at 2133 MHz (3 GB allotted)

  2. All are compatible except starlight and phosphor not compatible with each other. Starlight gives better performance but can break other mods more than phosphor

Starlight can be installed either on the dedicated server or client. It is notrequired to be installed on both sides. If you have Starlight on the server, clients can use Vanilla/Phosphor/Starlight to connect. Likewise, if you have Starlight onthe client, you can connect to Vanilla/Phosphor/Starlight servers. Starlight cannot be installed with Phosp...

The only solution was to create an extremely invasive mod which rewrote the entire light engine.I ported the mod to fabric so that I can update it during snapshots, and decided that publishing it forall user...

Here are a few graphs showing performance in 2 areas on: Block editing at high y-levels, and normal block light updates: Light engine time chunk generation Graphhas been removed as a benchmark as it is invalid for 1.20. Starlight and Vanilla are close enough on 1.20 thatthis test is also useless.

  3. Phosphor is more likely to be compatible with all your mods but has a smaller performance increase while Starlight is less likely to be compatible with all your mods but has a greater performance increase.

  4. Phosphor is a Minecraft mod which works to optimize one of game's most inefficient areas-- the lighting engine. It works on both the client and server, and can be installed on servers without requiring clients to also have the mod.

  5. May 4, 2023 · I edited the thread with more mods that are not necessarily performance mods like CIT Resewn. I put Phosphor because there are less incompatibilities but Starlight definitely performs better and is the one I usually use. Just go to https://modrinth.com/mods and paste the name of the mod.

  7. In terms of mod compatibility, Phosphor is going to be better since it modifies the light engine. Depending on your computer though, and terrain, you might just end up seeing more stutters on Starlight.
