Jul 4, 2012 · Congress passed the Flag Act of 1818, adding five new stars to the flag and reducing the number of stripes from 15 to 13. The five additional stars represented Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, Mississippi. This flag was designed by Navy Captain Samuel Reid.

Jul 1, 2014 · The aim of the Convention of 1818 was to settle outstanding boundary issues and disputes between the US and British North America following the War of 1812. The Treaty of 1818 set the 49th parallel as the border with Canada from Rupert's Land west to the Rocky Mountains.
The treaty marked both the United Kingdom's last permanent major loss of territory in what is now the Continental United States and the United States' first permanent significant cession of North American territory to a foreign power, the second being the Webster–Ashburton Treaty of 1842.
